My 2017 In A Nutshell (12/29/2017)

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner,  and has the year gone by fast or what? 2017 has been the most memorable year of my life so far (not saying much since I’m only 20, but hey still significant!). It has been such a roller coaster of a year, from having some really low moments to having some of the best memories of my life . Because of this it has caused me to grow and become who I am today. I want to spend this blog post describing my highlights from the whole year of 2017 (not just me being in Germany) as I feel like I really want to expand on how this year has changed my life so much. Enjoy and who knows, maybe you’ll find yourself in this blog post somehow!

My Trip to Israel – January

This trip was very last minute, and one I will never forget. We went everywhere in the country from Jerusalem, to the Dead Sea, to the Galilee and finally Tel Aviv. I was very thankful that it was very affordable for me to go on this adventure, only $400 for 10 days including airfare and it was one of the best investments I made this year.

My 20th Birthday Celebration – San Diego, CA –  April

This was sort of planned last minute as well, and I was very happy with how many people showed up. We had dinner at an Italian Restaurant named Buca di Beppo which has one of my favorite pasta dishes, Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. It made me really thankful for the people who had come into my life at that time, and it’s something that will stay close to me for years to come.

My Sisters Wedding – Temecula, CA – May

This was definitely was one of the memories I’ll remember for a lifetime. It’s such a fun moment to see my sister marry the man she loved, and I’m happy that they are doing super well. Not to mention I was a Groomsmen in their wedding, which was very fun in it’s own right. Now it’s only me who’s not married in my family, and who knows when that will actually happen 😉

Trip to the Bay Area – San Francisco, CA –  June

This trip was by far my favorite moment of my summer in California. My friend from my university is originally from the area, and I visited him for a few days during my last few weeks in California before I left for Germany. We spent a whole day in San Francisco on one of those travel buses that are everywhere in the city, and we had the best time seeing all the main sights. I also got to meet up with two other friends as well before heading back down the coast of California. I drove all the way down the state and saw many beach towns such as Santa Cruz, Monterrey and Avila Beach.

Farewell Party – Murrieta, CA – July 2017

This was definitely one of the best but sad moments for me this year, a couple days before I left for Germany I had a farewell party for my friends and family to say goodbye one last time. It was great to see all my friends and family again, but when they left is when it got hard. It was goodbye for a very long time, not just for a couple weeks or months. It will be something I will never forget, and was a crucial part of me leaving to my experience abroad.

My First Big European Trip – Italy, France, UK, Netherlands – September

A dream of mine was to be able to travel around Europe and see the cities of Paris, London, Rome, and Amsterdam. When I had the first opportunity to travel, that’s exactly what I did. We started in Rome, and had the best Italian food ever and got a few good pictures at the Colosseum. Paris was next and we had picnics on the Champ de Mars and saw the Catacombs. London was after, and we went all over the city, from Buckingham Palace to Tower Bridge. Lastly we visited the Netherlands to see the windmills of Kinderdjik (totally worth it in my opinion). Overall a trip I will never forget!

My Family Visits Europe – Germany, Italy – November

My family decided to come visit me and see what my life was like at my new home. They had the best time of their lives visiting Paris, Tübingen, Venice, Rome and Barcelona. I saw them in Tübingen and Rome and each time I saw them I could see how happy they were and how much fun they were having. I would have never thought that I would be in Europe with my family in January, but here I was in November in Tübingen showing them around the city. I’m glad that my adventures led to my family having one as well, and who knows maybe they’ll come out again!

My Christmas in Scandinavia – Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia – December

For Christmas this year I decided to do something a little out of the ordinary and take a cruise going from Sweden to Finland, Russia and Estonia. I was not sure what to expect from this trip, and it turned out to be my favorite trip in Europe since coming out here. The cities themselves were absolutely remarkable, including seeing snow made the experience that much better. The weather was cold yes, but it is something that I do not experience back at home and so it was part of the fun. Overall a Christmas I will never forget!

2017 was a year with lots of highs, and lots of lows. I have learned much from this year and looking back at everything I can only be thankful for the opportunities I’ve had. I am ready for a new year to start, and am excited for what 2018 has to offer (especially me being able to come home for two weeks during my 21st birthday!). I am spending New Year’s in Prague visiting friends from San Diego while also seeing a new city I have not been to yet, so be sure to look out for my blog post when I return! In conclusion, I know that when I am older I will back at this year and will remember it as one of the best years in my life, and that idea brings a big smile on my face.

Thanks for reading, any feedback can be sent to Happy new year and here is to a good 2018!
